Shoot the meterologist?
From Norway on October 7, 2009
From time to time, it`s quite tempting, isn`t it?
Weather reports went in all directions indeed when
we checked before heading to the cabin. One source
said weather would be ok, another practically told
us to just stay at home. The majority, however,
were not half bad.
Being the optimists we are, we (i.e. the wife) packed for every possible kinds of weather we could risk having. She would have done that anyway, but having read all but the weather prognosis for Siberia, we now had a car packed to the very limits of what it could hold. I swear I could see it bulging as I got in, and I remember thinking we`d have to plan how to disembark without most of our stuff exiting with us.
As it turned out, we didn`t lose anything. On the contrary, we gained weight every time we "had" to stop to use toilet facilities and/or stretch our legs. Thus making the drive even longer. In case my wife reads this, that was quite ok. Ahem.
I said the weather wasn`t too shabby when we arrived. If you enjoy carrying the items you have carefully loaded into your car into the cabin at a 45 degree angle to avoid being blown to the ground, it was fantastic. Did I mention there was also a boat? If you felt really masochistic I guess you would consider taking a small row boat with an outboard engine on a fjord with 4-5 feet of foamy waves. We decided to leave the boat were it was.
This second day, we also had a nice surprise in form of hails the size of grapes suddenly gracing us with their presence. So much for our plan of having a barbecue on the terrace. Indoor activities, anyone?
